Introduction
This is Shirane Shrine.
Rather close to Kusatsu’s famous Yubatake, this shrine is located inside a park on high ground.
As one example of mountain worship, Mt. Shirane was formerly worshipped as sacred, and there was a shrine on its summit.
In addition to various shrines such as Numa Shrine, Suwa Shrine and Mitsumine Shrine sharing the grounds of Shirane Shrine, there are also various cultural properties such as the eagle hot water monument, outdoor garden lanterns, and a stone tablet celebrating the renowned haiku poet, Basho.
